About Us

The Port of Stornoway offers a range of facilities unmatched in the northwest of Scotland.

Situated 30 miles off the north west coast of Scotland it is the main seaport of the Hebridean Island chain and provides a vital link to mainland Britain. This lively bustling town has everything you would expect of a modern Commercial Port as well as boasting the leading slipway facility on the West Coast and surrounding isles.

The Port is the main entry/exit point for all goods imported to and exported from the island. Over 1000 vessel movements are recorded annually comprising of commercial vessels, daily car passenger and freight ferries, cruise liners and many other vessel types.

Stornoway is one of the few ports on the West coast of Scotland offering two Ro-ro Linkspan facilities and handles almost 200,000 passengers per annum. As tourism increases Stornoway's modern ferry terminal is welcoming tourists from across the Globe. The port is becoming a popular stop over for cruise liners and visiting yachts combine this with the fishing industry and business opportunities and it is apparent that Stornoway Port Authority is ideally equipped for commerce and tourism in the twenty first century.

The following vacancy is available:

Port Operative - Stornoway Port Authority currently has one full time vacancy for a Port Operative.

The work consists mainly of manual duties, servicing vessels and maintenance within the port area.

This work will suit a person with a maritime background but such experience is not absolutely necessary as training will be given. Trade skills are preferred though not essential. A driving licence is also required.

Port Operatives work on a flexible shift basis in support of port operations, maintenance and out of hours watch keeping, including weekends, averaging 40 hours per week. Starting salary will be in line with the Scottish Joint Council Salaries Agreement APT Scale.

The successful applicant will be required to pass a medical examination.
