In the early parts of the 20th century Stornoway was one of the largest fishing ports in Europe and still has a comprehensive infrastructure of support services for the fishing industry including: fish salesmen, chandlers, ice supply, haulage, fuel suppliers, fish Processors, marine engineers, electricians, slipway, stores and Fishermen’s Mission.
Recent years have seen some stabilisation of the fishing industry, and the Port is now mainly shellfish landings. A new art ice plant was installed in December 2015, ensuring a consistent and readily available product is available in the required quantities and at the required time. The modern facilities in Stornoway have ensured its continuing role as a designated landing port, with landings in 2007 exceeding £2.5 million. The Port has a Fish Market (which is fully EU compliant ECD91/493/EC), adjacent Ice Plant as well as a comprehensive infrastructure of support services for the fishing industry.
The Port is ideal for crew changes due to the close proximity of Stornoway airport. Showers and Laundry facilities have recently been added at the Port.
Ice is available upon request; please contact the Harbour Office for further details: Phone 01851702688 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
